The purpose of the School Chaplaincy Program is to:

  • Provide the school community with pastoral care
  • Assist staff, students and their parents in working towards positive educational outcomes.
  • Promote student self image, potential, personal growth and healthy relationships with their peers and adults.
  • Assist students to develop skills and insight in the areas of decision making, emotions, beliefs and values.

Our school chaplain is available for confidential pastoral counselling and care of all members of the school community. Where parents request it, the chaplain may work individually or in small groups with nominated students. Where this involvement is more intensive than the normal involvement of a routine classroom helper, written parent permission will be obtained. This will ensure that parents are fully aware of the assistance that the chaplain is giving to students and encourage parents to be actively involved in the process.

As part of our school welfare team, our chaplain is also available to assist members of the school community with crisis intervention and trauma support, including:

  • Unconditional acceptance regardless of race, gender, religious or cultural background.
  • A friendly listening ear without discrimination
  • A safe, confidential environment for people to share their feelings
  • Assistance in times of crisis
  • Help in understanding and dealing with issues such as grief and loss through death or divorce, abuse, behavioural problems, low self esteem and relational issues.
